About Srimanta Shankardeva Kalakshetra of Assam Srimanta Shankardeva Kalakshetra of Assam is one of the Premier Cultural Institution of Assam which runs by Government of Assam. This Shankardeva Kalakshetra is now becoming a big platform for the upcoming local talents. In the year 1986 the Government of Assam was decided to built a cultural institution for the upcoming stars of Assam. Then in the year 1988 on 2nd February this cultural institution of Assam was built. But in the year 1990 this cultural institution of Assam was named as Srimanta Shankardeva Kalakshetra in the respect of the Vaishnav saint whose name was Srimanta Sankardeva. Srimanta Sankardeva was a great person of Assam who played a vital role to join the society of Assam and make it as one. He was also a great artist, Social worker and reformer and a scholar of Assam. This great cultural institution of Assam is located on the side of Shillong road which is easy to travel from any corners of Assam. Mr Ratna Ojha is the vice chairman of Srimanta Shankardeva Kalakshetra and Mr Chabin Rajkhowa is the secretary of Srimanta Shankardeva Kalakshetra. This Srimanta Shankardeva Kalakshetra is not just a cultural institution but it is a museum, a traditional Vaishnavite temple, a theater and also a good art gallery. There are also many wonderful handicrafts are also available in this Kalakshetra. In the Open Air Theater of Shankardeva Kalakshetra there are several events are held, such as music, dance, drama etc. The total capacity of this Theater is almost 2000. There are many rare books and manuscripts are available in this Shankardeva Kalakshetra. So the Shankardeva Kalakshetra is one of the Premier Cultural Institution of Assam.
